How We Met Having both grown up in Ladner and gone to the same high school, Kalle and Christie knew of one another through mutual friends so their paths did sometimes cross, but they never really had a chance to get to know each other. In May 2003 at a friends house party, they started talking and really hit it off. They began dating shortly after and have been inseperable ever since! The Proposal - by Christie Last summer Kalle and I were over on the west coast of Vancouver Island, in Bamfield, on a camping trip. On our first day there Kalle pointed out a small beach at the edge of the bay where we were camping - a beach you could only get to when the tide was out far enough. He made a comment that we would have to walk over and check it out before we left. I agreed without thinking too much of it. Then a few days later, on Tuesday, Kalle asked if I wanted to walk over and take a look. The two of us headed over to this beach - we got to this massive mound of rocks that we had to climb over to get to there and at this point the tide was starting to come back in and I was fairly certain we were going to be stranded on this tiny beach! Anyways, we finally got over to this beach and it was fabulous! Kalle told me how much he loved me, and at this point I was still oblivious to it all! There he pulled out this box and a stunning ring and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him ... and of course through a blur of tears I said yes! I couldnt wait to share the news!

The Proposal - by Kalle I had the ring hidden in my golf bag for a week before we left for the west coast of Vancouver island. It was either my golf bag our my hockey bag, and I didnt want it to end up smelling like a dead animal, so golf bag it was. After talking with Kevin, my Dad, and my best man, and letting them know my intentions, I was all set. But wait. How am I going to hide this thing during the trip until the night of the full moon when I planned to propose? I ended up packing it in a small backpack with our wetsuits and a bottle of champagne (go big or go home right?), and kept my eye on that bag at all times. I remember asking Christie if she wanted to take the dog out for a walk over to the little private beach and packing the ring box with me in my pocket. I felt like I was hiding an elephant in my pocket. Have you seen the size of those ring boxes? Why so freaking big?? Anyways, we got to the mound of rocks that seperated the main beach from the little private spot that I wanted to get her out to and she decided that she didn't want to go over there anymore. Something about the tide coming in and not wanting to be swept out to sea. Well, Christie is a really good swimmer and I was fairly certain that she could swim with me on her back, so I convinced her to keep going. I remember getting down on one knee and telling her that I couldnt imagine my life without her and asking her if she would spend the rest of her life with me. She started crying and then said yes!
